The Kunstverein’c concept of focusing all four shows a year on a shared theme has been highly praised.

Alongside the municipal gallery, the Kunstverein is also located in the palace. Founded in 1959, it has 350 members and the 700 square meters of space tend to be devoted to group shows. The concept has received national acclaim: All four shows a year with young international artists focus on a single theme: in 2010 it was "Speculation and Spectacle", in 2009 "Beyond Generations" and in 2008 "familiar & uncanny". Since 2010, there has been a small "Room for Friends" off the main hall. Impromptu events are organized here at short notice, be it shows, installations, readings, a bar, a club or movie screenings.
