Vienna City Guide: Oberes Belvedere
Gustav Klimt: "Der Kuss", 1908 (Courtesy Belvedere, Wien)

Alongside the world-famous Gustav Klimt collection, works by Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka, amongst others, are on display in the Baroque Palace.

When Prince Eugen had a summer residence built in High Baroque style, the magnificent gardens with the Belvedere castles were still situated on a hillside outside of the city. Today, Oberes Belvedere attracts art tourists from all over the world. The world’s largest Gustav Klimt collection can be found here, including his legendary work "The Kiss". Furthermore, the other two artist greats from Vienna between Art Nouveau and Expressionism, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka, have a seat of honor here. Next to these pieces, works of French Impressionism, Vienna Biedermeier and from the periods of the Palace’s origin are included amongst the impressive works of this collection.
