VIENNA CITY GUIDE: KUNSTHALLE/MUSEUMSQUARTIER

This institution is home to international contemporary art exhibitions focusing on photography, video, film, installation and new media.

Here historic structures and contemporary architecture meet. The architectural firm Ortner & Ortner completed the former Baroque riding hall with a functional new building. The institution can display international contemporary art on over 2,600 square meters. Photography, video, film, installation and new media form the focus. Large themed presentations range from the classical Modern to the latest developments in art. The Kunsthalle also has a branch at Karlsplatz – where it started off in 1992: In "project space", a glass pavilion by Adolf Krischanitz, art is displayed over 250 square meters.
