Graz
City Guide
An all-round museum that shapes the face of local cultural life
For 200 years, art in Graz has gone by a well-known name: Joanneum. Today almost all of the major institutions can be found under the roof of this universal museum. The Kunsthaus, for instance, with its attractive "blob" architecture, is responsible for contemporary art, Neue Galerie for the 19th and 20th centuries and Alte Galerie presents its historical art collection at Schloss Eggenberg. This unique castle complex between Baroque and Rococo has now been made a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to the Joanneum, there is also the Kunstverein association presenting young, international artists.
